Year in Review: 2022 to 2023
Even though this was my third year, in many ways, it felt like my first. Making the choice to change my major last year had its consequences, and this year, I had to deal with them. However, I wouldn't say that these consequences were necessarily bad; they were just very real, taking the form of a lot of catching up. I vividly remember my first day of summer classes, eagerly waiting for my chemistry class to start. As I waited and waited, it slowly dawned on me that I had accidentally signed up for a five-week sprint course that didn't actually start until the middle of the summer. Oops.
Academically, this past year proved to be a demanding yet rewarding struggle. There was so much ground to cover and so many gaps to fill in my knowledge. Adjusting to the rigors and routine of an engineering schedule took time, as I had to brush off the rust and get used to taking actual finals and dealing with homework again. However, despite the challenges, I persevered. I passed the trial run of something different and unknown, emerging successful. It's hard to believe that just last summer, I was only beginning this journey, and now, here I am, sitting at my co-op job, which serves as a final piece of success—a testament to myself that although the upcoming years won't be easy, they will certainly be possible.
Outside the classroom, but not far from it, I had an incredible year with the NEXT Innovation scholars. This group comprised incredibly intelligent and capable individuals, and I feel truly blessed to have had the opportunity to work with them consistently throughout the year. The NEXT Innovation Scholars program demanded a significant amount of time and effort, but it made that investment worthwhile by providing me with unique and fulfilling opportunities.
Now that I find myself embarking on another academic year, I look forward to a sense of familiarity. Building upon what I've learned over the past year, I hope to expand my knowledge and grow in new ways. The foundation I have established will serve as a springboard for further growth and exploration. I am excited about the prospects that lie ahead and the progress I will make as I continue this educational journey.
